The students completed a benchmark test using SchoolNet

Today, students were introduced to the Researcher's Notebook on pages 17-20 in the workbook. Students should already be familiar with creating summaries from their work last week. Today aimed to teach them how to take notes on texts as well as how to understand a citation.

Today, we read "Middle Ages" Excerpt 2 (pages 11-12 in the workbook), created gist statements for each paragraph, and answered the questions on pages 13-14 in the workbook.

Students used a graphic organizer (found on page 9 in the workbook) to begin constructing a summary of Excerpt 1 of "Middle Ages" (found on page 2 in the workbook).

Students answered the questions on pages 5-7 using evidence from the text.

Students were introduced to a new text: Excerpt 1 of "Middle Ages" (p. 2 in the workbook)

Students watched Horrible Histories - The Measy Middle Ages video and filled in guided notes in order to introduce them to the concept of life in the Middle Ages.

Students discussed themes of adversity and how authors use writing techniques to communicate thematic concepts and thematic statements.
